February 2nd

After suffering a 4-1 loss to Providence college in their last meeting on December 8th the CMU Blazers were looking for a come back. The Blazers came out strong with Mike Friesen (A: Luke Klassen, Marty Siemens) scoring the teams first goal at 14:42. The Providence Freemen answered back less then three minutes later putting themselves on the board at 11:19. The Blazers finished the period with another goal at 1:58 scored by Mike Neufeldt (A: Geoff Ethier, Mike Friesen). CMU got into some penalty trouble in the second allowing two goals to be scoried at 10:34, and 4:34. Blazers answered back at 4:19 with a great goal by Luke Klassen (A: Marty Siemens, Mike Friesen). The third period was close with the teams shooting the puck back and forth. CMU broke the deadlock with a fantastic goal by Marty Siemens (A: Ben Neufeld) at 7:32 in the third. The game remained 4-3 until with only 0:14 secs to go the Freemen with an empty net scored the equalizer. This finished the game with a 4-4 tie setting the CMU record to 2-2-2.

CMU Game 2

CMU Blazers 8, Providence Freemen 2

Coming off the loss last weekend the Blazers definitely came into this game with fire. The first period was a back and forth affair until the last six when Blazers Geoff Ethier (A: Mike Neufeldt, Mike Sudderman.) put the Blazers on the scoreboard with a goal at 5:48 This was followed up quickly by another goal by Geoff (A: Del Barber) at 4:08, putting the Blazers up 2-0. The Freemen would score at 3:14 in the first to make it a 2-1 game going into the second period. Playing with the same confidence as in the first the Blazers dominated the second period scoring an amazing five goals. Goals in the second period were scored by Mike Sudderman (A: Geoff Ethier) at 13:40, Marty Siemens (A: Luke Klassen, Jono Friesen) at 12:42 on the power play, Marty Siemens (A: Luke Klassen) again at 9:05 on the power play; Geoff Ethier (A: Mike Neufeldt, Mike Sudderman) wrapped up the hatrick at 8:46 and Marty Siemens(A: Mike Neufeldt) wrapped up his hatrick goal at 3:18. The Freemen only goal in the second was a power play goal at 5:28, with a slap shot from the blue line that goalie Josh Ewert could not stop, due to an excellent screen. Going into the third period with a 7-2 lead CMU played some dump and chase, with Marty Siemens (A: Mike Friesen, Luke Klassen) scoring his fourth goal of the game the last goal of the game at 13:35. This sealed the deal as CMU Blazers blew out the Providence Freemen 8-3 , putting the Blazers record at 1-1.

CMU's third period goal!

ACC Cougars 8, CMU Blazers 3

Blazers men’s hockey opened on November 9th with a fierce rematch of last years CPAC final. The Blazers, with starting goaltender Kyle Berg, came out strong in the first period keeping the Cougars at bay, killing two penalties in the first. The Cougars pounced however in the second half of the period scoring three goals, with two coming with three minutes left in the period. Going into the second period the Blazers came out with great pressure, but allowed a goal with 13:22 remaining, making the score 4-0 for the Cougars. The Blazers were down, but kept up the fight for the rest of period. Their determination paid off with the Blazers Geoff Ethier scoring the team’s first goal of the season at 10:20 assisted, by Mike Suderman. The Blazers weren’t done with the scoring either, potting another marker with scored with only 33 seconds in the period by Assistant Captain Mike Friesen, with assists going to Marty Siemens and Captain Luke Klassen. This closed out the period with the teams going to the dressing rooms with a 4-2 lead for the Cougars. With this kind of a score the Blazers started the period with jump, but quickly found themselves getting into penalty trouble. Cougars scored two quick power play goals at 17:27 and 16:25 respectively, making the score 6-2. The Blazers killed off another penalty before Jono Friesen scored the third Blazers goal, beating the goalie at 11:28, with assists going to Marty Siemens and Geoff Ethier. The Blazers would fall into more penalty trouble after this goal, killing five out of six more penalties, allowing two more goals, finishing the game with a 8-3 final.
